Shooting investigation near 54th Street and Meinecke, Milwaukee

One person is dead following a reported shooting near 54th Street and Meinecke in Milwaukee, according to the medical examiner's office and dispatch records.

Milwaukee police were dispatched to the scene of a shooting around 10 a.m. A body was visible under a tarp in the middle of the block.

“Someone has to tell me if that's my brother up there,” a woman told a police officer on the sidewalk as a light rain began to fall.

A man stopped, parked his car and walked under crime scene tape, before being pushed away by an officer, telling him he could not enter the area.

“My nephew is dead, he's lying there on the block and you won't let me see him,” the man said.

“We need to know it's him,” another woman said.

Others were seen consoling each other, some crying, just outside the police perimeter.

It is unclear what exactly led to the shooting.

Milwaukee police blocked off 54th Street, from Meinecke to Wright Streets, with crime scene tape crossing the street.

Officers combed the street, knocking on doors of homes on both sides of the block and talking to residents.

FOX6 News reached out to Milwaukee police for information but has not received a response.
