A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said it treated the three adults and the child at the scene before taking them to a large trauma centre.

Ayo Adesina, a passerby, told the BBC: “I arrived about four, five, six minutes after it happened.

“People were just quiet, like someone was trying to help… people just seemed stunned and trying to figure out what was going on.”

He said Kingsland High Street was a working-class area and it was “very reckless of someone to do this”.

Another resident, Dave Evans, who heard gunshots while walking his dog, said it was “part of life in Hackney”.

“If I had gotten there five minutes earlier, who knows what would have happened, it’s not good for the community.”
