Shooting in downtown Columbus: 1 killed, 3 injured at nightclub

Deputy Police Chief Greg Bodker said the shooting may have stemmed from an altercation at the bar.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two people were killed and two others injured in a shooting at a downtown Columbus nightclub early Friday morning.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to Avalon, located at 2025 North 5th Street, near North 4th and Spring streets, around 1:45 a.m. after receiving several calls about shots fired.

Deputy Police Chief Greg Bodker said one person, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:58 a.m.

Two people were transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. One of the shooting victims was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:45 a.m. and the other's condition has since improved.

A third shooting victim was taken to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and his condition was described as stable.

Bodker said preliminary indications led detectives to believe the shooting resulted from an altercation. The ages of the victims vary between 20 and 40 years old.

Details on a possible suspect were not immediately available.
