Shooting at Wisconsin rooftop party leaves 10 injured | Wisconsin

A shooting Sunday morning at a rooftop party in Wisconsin left at least 10 people, including teenagers, injured, police said.

Nine people were injured by gunfire and another by broken glass during a party at a downtown Madison building.

Sunday's violence brought the number of mass shootings in the United States so far this year to at least 205, according to the nonpartisan Gun Violence Archive.

Records define a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are injured or killed. The continued high number of mass shootings in the United States has fueled calls from some for stricter gun controls, although Congress has largely ignored those calls.

All of Madison's injured were hospitalized. None of them had life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The victims were aged between 14 and 23.

“It’s truly a miracle that no one died,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said at a news conference. “As a community, our hearts ache. »

Police were called to the scene around 12:45 a.m.

“These students should have been celebrating their summer break and not receiving medical care,” Barnes said.

The shooting occurred near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, but university officials said no students were among those injured or involved.

No one was in custody Sunday in connection with the shooting. Police have not offered a motive.
