Shooting at the Camanche Lake campsite: 1 man arrested

The victim told police she had been arguing with a man over a car accident when the man pulled out a gun and shot her.

CALAVERAS COUNTY, Calif. — A man has been arrested for attempted murder after a shooting at a crowded Lake Camanche campground.

According to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, it happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday while a deputy was on patrol and heard a gunshot near the Moccasin Campgrounds on the South Shore.

Upon arrival, the victim told the deputy that she had been arguing with Ismael Viveros, 28, over a car accident.

The victim told Deputy Viveros that he was going to “kill” him and shot him and other campers.

Amador County deputies and the California Highway Patrol were called for assistance, and Viveros was found near the front door trying to leave.

He was arrested and taken to the Calaveras County Jail where he was booked on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threatening and participating in a street gang. He is not eligible for bail.
