Shooting at South Philadelphia takeout restaurant leaves 5 injured – NBC10 Philadelphia

Five men were injured in a shooting at a South Philadelphia takeout restaurant, with bullets narrowly missing a child and others inside the restaurant, Philadelphia police said.

At least two people began shooting at the Twin Dragon takeout restaurant, located at the corner of South 27th and Dickinson streets in the Grays Ferry neighborhood, shortly before 10:25 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024, Philadelphia police said.

At least one person inside the store began returning fire, police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Five men, aged 21 to 45, were injured, four were shot in the legs and one was shot in the arm, police said. Police initially reported only four people were shot.

Police took one man to hospital, while the other four arrived in private cars, investigators said. All were taken to area hospitals in stable condition.

Five customers inside the takeout restaurant, including a child under 10, were not hit by gunfire, Small said.

Investigators found evidence that at least 40 shots were fired outside the restaurant and 12 more from inside, Small said. Police found at least one firearm at the scene.

The shooters outside the store appeared to have fled in a dark-colored SUV, Small said.

At least one shooting victim is being held as a suspect, Small said.

Police also seized a car that had been used to take a gunshot victim to hospital so he could be examined for clues.

No motive was known for the shooting and investigators hoped surveillance video would help them track down the gunmen, Small said.

Police asked anyone with information to call the Shooting Investigation Group at 215-686-8270 or submit a tip anonymously by calling or texting 215-686-TIPS (8477).

It was not the first time a shooting had occurred at the same Chinese takeout restaurant, as a teenager was shot dead there while begging for his life in 2017.
