Shooting at Homestead apartment building involved police

MIAMI – A shooting at a Homestead apartment complex involving police remains under investigation.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. Thursday at 40 NW 2nd Street, not far from Homestead police headquarters and within walking distance of City Hall.

Miami-Dade police detectives told CBS News Miami's Joe Gorchos that what happened was related to a previous investigation and not a response to a 911 call. Other enforcement officials laws said the officers fired.

No officers were injured.

The circumstances of the previous investigation, why officers were there late last night and whether anyone was seriously injured or killed in the shooting remain very unclear.

Because police officers were involved, the shooting is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Gorchow said there were numerous Miami-Dade police vehicles, several trucks at the crime scene and FDLE, but no Homestead police cars. He said it was unclear which agency was active in the shooting.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
