Shooting at Compton pool party leaves one dead, five injured – Press Telegram

Sheriff's investigators are searching for possible suspects in a shooting in Compton that killed one man and injured five other people at a home where about 100 people were present.

Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Mayo Avenue and Greenleaf Boulevard outside Compton College around 8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Lt. Omar Camacho .

They reported seeing approximately 100 people leaving a residence. They were directed to the rear of the scene and discovered a victim with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene told ABC7 the shooting happened during a pool party at a home. Partygoers scattered in all directions after the shooting, many still in swimsuits and without shoes, according to the broadcast report. Video from the scene showed police searching the backyard of a home for evidence.

Five injured victims – three women and two men – were transported to the hospital, according to the Compton Fire Department. They were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

KCAL 9 reported that a sixth victim went to the hospital two hours after the shooting.

There was no description of a suspect.
