Shooter released after road rage shooting in Clearfield leaves another man dead

FREE FIELD — After a man died in a shooting during a highway fight, Clearfield police said the man who pulled the trigger was released pending an investigation Tuesday.

“A car accident turned into a road rage incident that ended right here in front of my house,” said Stanley Slater, a homeowner who lives directly across the street from where the shooting took place. place.

Police say the crash happened Monday evening near Industrial Parkway and State Route 193. One of the drivers took off and the other followed, calling 911. They ended up near the 75 North and 1000 West.

The driver of the fleeing car stopped, got out and began walking toward the other driver, police said. The driver who called 911 then fired at least one shot.

“Just a really sharp crack,” Slater said. “A few minutes later, I heard a lot of police sirens, and that's when I realized, 'Oh, that was a shooting that happened.' »

Police have not released the names of the two men, but the man who was shot and killed was in his 60s. The man who fired the shots is in his 30s and police said he is cooperating with the investigation.

Police said both were from Davis County.

“Don’t let your emotions get the better of you. Things will (will) happen on the roads. There (are) a lot of cars. Don’t let someone interrupt you or even a property accident: don’t let that affect how you react,” said Clearfield City Deputy Police Chief Devin Rogers.

Fast forward to Tuesday morning, a line of yellow tape marked the area under investigation and the evidence left behind. Police said lawyers and prosecutors would meet Wednesday to determine whether or what type of charges would be filed.

“Let’s let the police intervene if that’s the situation,” Slater said. “No one needs to get shot after a car accident.”
