Shooter opens fire during altercation, injures teen – NBC 6 South Florida

Police are searching for an individual who opened fire multiple times Monday at an apartment complex in Opa-locka, injuring a 15-year-old boy.

Officers from the Opa-locka and Miami-Dade police departments, including troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol, were seen responding to the scene in the 1300 block of Sharazard Street.

Opa-locka police said the shooting resulted from an altercation. The subject shot several times at other people and eventually hit a passing vehicle, police said.

“I probably heard a dozen gunshots,” said Marvin, manager of Discount Auto Sales across the street from the apartment complex.

A 15-year-old boy, who was inside the car, was slightly injured by the glass fragments shattered by the bullet, police said. It is believed he was not the target of the shooting.

NBC6 spotted a black Nissan with a broken window a few blocks from the scene. The Miami-Dade Fire Department confirmed that a transport to the hospital was requested.

Marvin said he was thankful none of the employees were near the SUV at the time of the shooting. He said it was a high traffic area at the dealership, but they closed early due to the holidays.

“It’s Memorial Day, we had half the staff,” he said. “We sold three cars and we said, OK, that’s enough, so everything happens for a reason all the time.”

Police also went to an apartment complex at 165 Kalander Street after a witness reported seeing the suspected shooter.

Authorities did not say whether they had found the shooter, but urged the public to report any suspicious activity.
