Shocking CCTV footage shows stabbed Deliveroo delivery man fighting back at gunman

This is the moment a Deliveroo rider desperately fights off a teenage thief who stabbed him in the stomach as he tried to steal his bike in north London.

Lewis Livingstone attacked the victim, then aged 28, as he walked home along Fore Street, Enfield, in broad daylight.

The 19-year-old thug, who was at a bus stop, lunged at the cyclist and kicked him, forcing him to get off his bike.

He then drew a large knife and chased the victim before getting on the bike and brandishing the knife at the victim again when he tried to arrest him at around 4.30pm on July 1 last year.

The rider, wearing a distinctive Deliveroo thermal backpack, attacked Livingstone to prevent his bike from being stolen.

As they writhed on the ground, Livingstone retrieved his knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen in front of many horrified onlookers.

The man screamed for help and was stabbed again as he desperately tried to defend himself.

Members of the public bravely intervened to stop Livingstone and he was arrested while police rushed to the scene and arrested him minutes later.

When asked why he did this, one witness said Livingstone simply replied: “Is he dead?” »

In a victim impact statement, the motorcyclist said: “I believe this man was going to kill me if people hadn't come to my aid.

“I have not yet recovered from the shock and fear. I spent the night in hospital having nightmares. I still have a lot of pain in my side and hands from the stab wound. I am now in the queue for a hand operation.”

The victim received first aid at the scene before being transported to hospital, where fortunately his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life-altering.

Metropolitan Police officers worked quickly to charge Livingstone within 24 hours. He was remanded in custody.

Livingstone attempted to claim he was acting in self-defense, but this was easily refuted by detectives.

Alongside CCTV, they gathered a wealth of witness statements and carried out forensic work that would prove his guilt.

Livingstone, of Wellington Road, Enfield, was sentenced to six and a half years' imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court sitting at Hendon Magistrates' Court on Friday, after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to attempted theft and possession of 'a sharp article.

He was also on a suspended sentence for a previous offence for which he will now have to serve 18 months, bringing the total to eight years in prison.

Detective Constable James Hunt said: “The victim continues to suffer from the physical and psychological effects of this incident. He was going about his day, having just bought some food, when he was plunged into a terrible ordeal.

“I know he is extremely grateful to the people who came to his aid. Without their courage, this incident could have been much worse.

“This is a good example of how the community came forward and worked with police following a serious crime. These valuable witnesses, combined with other investigative work, were essential in helping us quickly charge and remand Livingstone in custody. »
