Sheriff's vehicle involved in crash between 5th and Pitkin | Western Colorado

A law enforcement vehicle responding to a call ended up on a tow truck before arriving at the scene of the incident Friday.

Shortly before noon, a two-vehicle crash was reported at the intersection of Fifth Street and Pitkin Avenue.

The Grand Junction Police Department responded to the crash involving a Mesa County Sheriff's Office vehicle and minor injuries were reported.

A Mesa County sheriff's deputy was responding to a call for service when the crash occurred. The deputy, who was not identified in the news release, was medically examined at the scene for minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, also unidentified, also suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department for further evaluation.

The crash remains under investigation by Grand Junction Police and no further information is available at this time.

In another police incident near downtown Friday, GJPD officers responded to a report that a man had thrown a metal pipe at vehicles in the area of ​​250 N. City Hall. Fifth Street.

Officers arrested the suspect, Jason Barniville, without incident. No injuries were reported and Barniville, 38, was arrested on two outstanding warrants and charged with menacing and disorderly conduct.
