Sheriff's report: Two reprimanded by deputies in separate cases of underage drinking

Summit County Sheriff's Report.

Summit County Sheriff's Office deputies reprimanded two people in separate incidents of underage drinking late last week.

Deputies were dispatched to a three-car crash in Browns Canyon on Friday, according to a shift report. The driver who caused the accident was suspected of driving under the influence and the individual was arrested after investigation.

A small amount of marijuana, THC hash resin and drug paraphernalia were found by officers during a vehicle search, according to the report. The suspect, under the age of 21, was transported to the Summit County Jail. The individual faces charges including driving while intoxicated under the Not a Drop law, reckless driving, tampering with evidence and removing a label from a prescription bottle.

The next day, a Summit Park homeowner reported an intoxicated man attempting to enter his residence. The police arrived at the home, but the man had already left.

Law enforcement searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect. However, he was later found passed out in the courtyard of the complainant's house.

Officers determined the suspect was actually a juvenile, according to the report. They also confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol. He was cited and released to a responsible person approved by his mother.

The Sheriff's Office responded to three additional calls between Monday, June 3 and Sunday, June 9. The reports included two DUIs and a missing person.

Sunday June 9

Deputies stopped a vehicle in Kamas for several moving violations. They smelled alcohol after speaking with the driver and asked the individual to perform a standardized field sobriety test. The driver performed poorly and was arrested. The individual was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to drive in single lane and speeding.

Friday June 7

An employee at Blue Sky Lodge reported that a woman crashed her car into the exit gate of the property around 11:30 p.m. Deputies wanted to conduct a field sobriety test after an investigation, but they were unable to do so because the driver was suffering “from a migraine.” The driver was arrested for drunk driving and property damage. A blood sample was taken at the Summit County Jail.

Wednesday June 5

Deputies were dispatched to Rockport State Park after a senior citizen with advanced dementia was reported missing. The individual walked away from a campsite. Deputies requested assistance from Summit County Search and Rescue, the Sheriff's Office Mounted Patrol and a drone team. The missing person was found in good health.
