Sheriff's report: Man attacked and thrown to ground at Kimball Junction Transit Center

Summit County Sheriff's Report.

A man was attacked at the Kimball Junction Transit Center Thursday afternoon.

The man had called the Summit County Sheriff's Office to report someone acting aggressively and throwing objects. The suspect then spoke to the caller.

A witness said the suspect, later identified as a 49-year-old man, grabbed the caller and threw him to the ground. The caller explained that he was lying on the bus bench when the suspect began to attack him verbally and physically.



Officers observed two bruises on the man's right elbow and a reddened area under his right eye, the sheriff's office said.

The 49-year-old suspect was arrested for assault and transported to the Summit County Jail.



The Sheriff's Office responded to several other calls between Monday, June 10 and Sunday, June 17, including reports of driving under the influence, active arrest warrants and drugs.

Sunday June 16

A vehicle was stopped on Interstate 80 for failing to maintain a single lane. The driver crossed the center lane twice. Law enforcement noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car. The man agreed to participate in a standardized field sobriety test, in which he performed poorly. A breathalyzer test showed the man was more than four times the legal limit at the scene. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a denied license and failure to drive in a single lane.

Friday June 14

A vehicle was stopped for speeding on SR 40 near Coalville. The man showed signs of impairment and an open case of alcohol was observed at the passenger's feet. The man told law enforcement he would participate in a sobriety test, but “not the walking ones.” A breathalyzer test came back positive for alcohol and the man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. THC wax and drug paraphernalia were also discovered. The man had two active arrest warrants from Ogden for driving without insurance.

Thursday June 13

The police observed a vehicle committing several moving violations and conducted a traffic stop. The 36-year-old woman had glassy eyes and was shaking. Officers searched his car and found 446 fentanyl pills, 6.8 grams of methamphetamine and white foil with two burnt pills and a straw. The quantity of pills was considered a dispensable level. The woman was charged with possession with intent to distribute, a second-degree felony, as well as possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

A motorcycle was seen leaving the road near the Park City Tech Center. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and driving under restrictions. The man was transported to an area medical facility for medical evaluation. He was cited and taken to the hospital.

Drugs have been reported in Coalville. The suspect was found in the area and a traffic stop was conducted. Deputies determined he had a suspended license and an active warrant. Drugs and paraphernalia were also found on the man and inside his vehicle while he was in police custody. The man was transported to the Summit County Jail without incident.

A drunk man allegedly had a drink at the Newpark Hotel without paying. Officers located the man, who was intoxicated. The hotel declined to press charges for retail theft. He was arrested for drunkenness and imprisoned. It was determined to be the same person a restaurant had complained about earlier in the day. However, police were unable to locate him at that time.

Deputies responded to a report of fraud near SR 224. An individual was attempting to use someone else's information to check into a hotel room. Police made contact with the suspect in the parking lot. A records check showed he had several outstanding arrest warrants. The man was taken into custody without incident.

Wednesday June 12

A vehicle was stopped for failing to signal a left turn and displaying incorrect registration. The driver was found to have a statewide warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody. Two open bottles of strong alcohol were found during an inventory of the car. The driver was transported to the Summit County Jail to obtain the warrant and issued a citation for open containers.

A suspicious vehicle was reported near the Tollgate car park. Both occupants were seated in the car and appeared to be intoxicated. The man was extremely intoxicated and refused to cooperate with law enforcement. He was arrested on two charges. His girlfriend was released. The vehicle was left on site.

Deputies stopped a vehicle without insurance near the Tech Center. The driver also said he did not have a license. A records check revealed the man's driver's license had been suspended and he required an ignition interlock device to operate a motor vehicle, which he did not have. The man was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.

Deputies conducted a records check on a truck on I-80. Two active warrants returned to the registered owner. The passenger was also found to have several active arrest warrants. Officers arrested the man and found drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.

Tuesday June 11

A man was arrested for trespassing at a Canyons Village apartment complex. Management said there was an ongoing problem with a squatter. Staff entered a unit that was supposed to be empty, but found a man sleeping in the room. The man was irritated when speaking with deputies, but said he got permission from a friend to stay in the apartment. Staff confirmed that the unit needed to be vacated and that the person had left the room. It is unclear how the man gained access to the room.
