Sheriff's Report 6-6-24 – Jackson County Pilot

May 24
A deputy on patrol reported flooding in several areas of Jackson, including North Highway, Dewey Street, Pond Drive, State Street, Emily Street and parts of County Road 34. Manhole covers were also noted at North Highway, Dewey Street and State Street and Emily. Street. The city's Streets Department was contacted.
A motorist reported hitting a manhole cover that had been raised by the flood, causing damage to the vehicle.
A deputy responded to a report of a loose dog that had bitten another dog in Jackson.
A deputy conducted a probation check and discovered a probation violation for alcohol failure. Complaints were made to the judicial services for violation of probation conditions.
Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at the Office of Judicial Administration courthouse. A group of men reportedly shouted and threw papers.
Officers responded to a report of a man operating an ATV on private property, causing damage. The ATV was located and the driver was issued a citation for no Minnesota driver's license and no insurance.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Jackson. The driver received a ticket for driving after revocation and no proof of insurance.

Dispatch forwarded a 911 report to the Minnesota State Patrol regarding speeding and unsafe passing of other vehicles on Highway 86 near the Iowa border.

May 25
Deputies responded to a downtown Jackson business for a report of a customer vaping indoors where it is not prohibited by the Clean Air Act. The customer received a trespass notice and was asked to leave.
The dispatcher forwarded a 911 report to the Minnesota State Patrol regarding a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of Highway 60 near Heron Lake.
A deputy responded to a driving complaint on I-90 near Alpha regarding a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle was located and clocked at 103 miles per hour. A 23-year-old Middletown, Wisconsin man was issued a citation for reckless driving.
Heron Lake Ambulance, Heron Lake Fire Department and deputies assisted the Minnesota State Patrol with a two-vehicle crash on Highway 60 in Heron Lake.
Deputies assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call.
Dispatch forwarded a 911 report to the Minnesota State Patrol regarding a possible impaired driver on Highway 60 west of Heron Lake.

May 26
A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Lakefield. After investigation, a 35-year-old man from Spirit Lake, Iowa, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
A deputy responded to a report of loud music at an apartment complex in Jackson.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on Springfield Parkway. The driver was issued a citation for speeding – 55 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone.
A deputy went to Heron Lake to get a report of a juvenile runaway.
A deputy assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call.
A deputy assisted the Minnesota State Patrol with a car-deer crash on Highway 60 near Wilder.
A deputy assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call.

May 27
Dispatch forwarded a 911 report to the Minnesota State Patrol regarding a vehicle all over the road and at times occupying half of both lanes of Highway 60 west of Heron Lake.
Deputies conducted a requested welfare check on an individual.
Deputies responded to a report of a violation of a domestic violence restraining order. As a result, a 56-year-old man from Alpha was arrested for DANCO violations.

May 28
A deputy responded to a child custody dispute.
Deputies responded to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in Jackson. After investigation, a 52-year-old Jackson man was arrested for domestic violence.
Dispatch transferred a 911 call to the Minnesota State Patrol complaining about two police cars stopping traffic on Highway 60 in Heron Lake. The caller was informed that he was part of a funeral procession and that state law required motorists to yield the right of way. The caller was still upset and asked to speak to the Minnesota State Patrol.
A deputy responded to a report of a possible DANCO violation from an inmate being held in the Jackson County Jail.
A deputy received a report of a stolen gun approximately two weeks ago from a parked/unoccupied vehicle in Jackson.
Deputies responded to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in Jackson.
A deputy received a report of an assault in Jackson. The matter remains under investigation.

May 29
A deputy received a report of litter at the public works recycling center. Prohibited general waste was dumped on the bin site.
A deputy responded to a report of a burglary at a residence in Alpha.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on County Road 34 near Alpha. The driver was issued a citation for speeding – 74 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.
Dispatch transferred a 911 call to the Minnesota State Patrol regarding a car vs. deer crash on I-90 near Alpha.
A deputy responded to a report of a loose dog that had bitten another dog. The owner of the aggressive dog was issued with a dangerous dog notice.
A deputy assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call to the Des Moines rest area on I-90.

May 30
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 86 and I-90. The driver was issued a ticket for driving after suspension.
Deputies responded to a report of yelling and screaming in a yard in Jackson. It was determined to be a dispute over property.
Deputies conducted a civil vigil while goods were exchanged between the two sides.
A deputy responded to a report of loud music at an apartment complex in Jackson.
Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Jackson. The driver was issued a citation for no Minnesota driver's license.

May 31st
Deputies responded to a report of a hit-and-run in Jackson. It was reported that a vehicle struck a parked vehicle on a street in Jackson.
Deputies assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on County Road 34 near Alpha. A citation was issued for speed – 72 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-90 near the Heron Lake exit. A citation was issued for speed – 90 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of County Road 9 and Okabena Road. The driver was issued a citation for speeding – 70 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

June 1
A deputy assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on County Road 34 east of the Jackson Airport. The driver was issued a citation for speeding – 68 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.
A deputy responded to a report of speeding in Brown Park.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Okabena. After investigation, a 19-year-old Heron Lake man was arrested for driving while intoxicated. A passenger received a ticket for underage drinking.
A deputy assisted a motorist with vehicle problems on I-90 near Alpha. The motorist was taken to a local motel.

June 2
A deputy responded to an ordinance violation in Jackson. A ticket was issued for too many vehicles on the property.
A deputy assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call.
A deputy responded to a report of a dog that had bitten another dog in Jackson.
A deputy responded to a report that a man was burning prohibited materials during a recreational backyard fire in Jackson.
Dispatch transferred a 911 call to the Minnesota State Patrol regarding a vehicle that was all over the road on Highway 60 near Heron Lake.
