Sheriff's Report 06/13/24 – Jackson County Pilot

June 3
A deputy responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on County Road 14, west of Lakefield. A vehicle traveling eastbound on County Road 14 struck another vehicle parked perpendicularly in the eastbound lane with the front tires in the ditch and the rear half of the car in the travel lane. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage. The parked vehicle was unoccupied. The deputy found the driver of the parked vehicle about four hours later. After investigation, a 45-year-old woman was found in a Lakefield residence and arrested for driving while intoxicated. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Deputies responded to a report of a white pickup truck with Iowa license plates that had been abandoned in recent days at a vacant farm site west of Jackson. The matter remains under investigation.
A dispatcher spoke on the radio about What 3 Words, an addressing system used by sheriff's office dispatchers to help determine the exact location of a 911 caller in need of help.

June 4
A deputy responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex in Jackson.
A deputy assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call for a motorist on I-90 near Alpha.
A deputy responded to a report of a dog on the loose that allegedly attacked another dog. The owner was located and a citation was issued for the dog at large. A dangerous dog notice has also been served on the owner, which will require many demands from the dog owner.
A deputy helped a motorist on I-90 who was out of gas. The motorist was driven to a Jackson gas station and returned to the vehicle.
Deputies assisted the Minnesota State Patrol with a two-vehicle crash on Highway 86 near the Iowa border. The driver of one of the vehicles, a 69-year-old man from rural Lakefield, was arrested for driving after a cancellation, which was contrary to public safety. Warmka Towing responded to the scene. The police remained on scene for approximately 3.5 hours.
MPs attended Public Works Day at Ashley Park. The young people were able to see a police car, as well as many other municipal utility vehicles and emergency medical services vehicles. More than 200 young people participated.

Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle out of control on County Road 9, north of Heron Lake. The vehicle entered Duck Lake and came to rest with water up to its hood. A tow truck responded to the scene. There were no injuries. The police remained on scene for approximately an hour and a half.

June 5
Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in Minneota Township.
A deputy responded to two driving complaints regarding a truck traveling northbound on County Road 29 that had a large piece of steel protruding from behind the cab into the oncoming lane of traffic. Both 911 callers said they had to swerve to avoid being hit. The officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. They discovered that it was actually just webbing from a ratchet strap that was wobbling in the wind.
Dispatch received a report of a large tree trunk floating on Little Spirit Lake that could be dangerous to boaters. It is suspected that high water levels pulled the tree from the shore. A deputy spotted numerous logs floating on the lake that were considered a safety issue and removed them.
Dispatch transferred a 911 call to the Minnesota State Patrol regarding a driving complaint on I-90 near the Heron Lake exit. The caller said a black Tacoma with wide tires and an Idaho license plate was driving aggressively and cutting off other motorists.
Deputies assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call.

June 6
A 19-year-old Minneapolis man walked into the lobby of the Sheriff's Office on a misdemeanor arrest warrant.
A deputy responded to a report of fireworks in Jackson.
The Okabena and Heron Lake fire departments were dispatched to a tractor and hay bale fire. Crews remained on scene for approximately an hour.

June 7
A deputy assisted Jackson Ambulance with a medical call.
A deputy responded to a civil dispute regarding the property.
A deputy helped a motorist who was out of gas on I-90 near Jackson.
A deputy observed an ordinance violation at an address in Jackson. A notice to reduce the unwanted vehicle offense has been sent to the owner.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on County Road 34 near County Road 3. The driver was issued a citation for speeding – 70 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

Deputies responded to a two-vehicle T-shaped crash north of Bergen at the intersection of County Road 36 and County Road 21. A 2011 Ford F-150 driven by George Bramstedt was traveling toward north on County Road 21. A 1994 Chevrolet GMT driven by David Krueger of Windom was traveling eastbound on County Road 36. Krueger failed to yield and collided with the northbound vehicle. Both vehicles rolled and entered the ditch. Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Windom Ambulance, Windom Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene. Alcohol is suspected of playing a role. The matter remains under investigation.

June 8
The Sheriff's Office hosted the 18th annual Take A Kid Fishing event at Brown Park. More than 110 young people attended the event.

A deputy noticed an ordinance violation at an address in Jackson. A reduction notice has been sent to the owner.
Dispatch transferred a 911 call to the Minnesota State Patrol regarding a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of I-90 near Sherburn.

June 9

Dispatch forwarded a 911 report of a disturbance in Round Lake to Nobles County dispatch.
A deputy responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on Okabena Road, west of Lakefield, that was partially in the roadway. A tow truck responded to the scene and removed it as it was a traffic hazard.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Jackson. The driver was issued a citation for driving after revocation and expired registration.
