San Bernardino County sheriff's officials say an escaped inmate, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, has been found.

The inmate is Deshaun Stamps, 29, of Riverside, who escaped Sunday from the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, sheriff's officials said.

On Monday, Stamps was located in Los Angeles and taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department, which is working with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department to transfer custody.

Details of how Stamps was located were not provided.

The stamps escape

On Sunday around 12:19 p.m., officers at the West Valley Detention Center discovered Stamps had escaped during an outdoor recess period, authorities said.

Sheriff's officials describe Stamps as a black man, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing nearly 170 pounds. Stamps has green eyes, is bald, and has tattoos on his neck and head. It is unclear what clothes he is wearing, police said.

Stamps has been in custody since Jan. 30, 2023, on suspicion of attempted murder, according to sheriff's officials.

No further details about the alleged incident were provided.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's booking records reveal that Stamps was arrested on November 23, 2022 by the Beverly Hills Police Department and turned over to San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials in January 2023.

Authorities have not revealed how Stamps escaped from the prison.
