Sheriff's Office suspect arrested after attempted break-in at deputy's home

A suspect is in custody after an off-duty deputy shot an intruder during an attempted home invasion in Reading Sunday morning.

Darrel Williams, 26, faces one count of aggravated burglary after being arrested in connection with the attempted break-in, according to Kyla Woods, spokeswoman for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Woods said Reading police were called to the 1700 block of Keith Road around 5:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired.

Once they arrived, they discovered the sheriff's office deputy came home from work and found an intruder in his home.

During the confrontation between the deputy and the intruder, the deputy fired his personal weapon, Woods said.

The suspect, later identified as Williams, fled the scene but was eventually apprehended by Cincinnati police. Williams was struck in the leg by a bullet and has non-life-threatening injuries, Woods said.

It is unclear if the deputy was also injured during the incident.

Hamilton County deputies are still investigating the matter.
