Sheriff's Office Investigating Fatal Crash on U.S. Highway 33

On Sunday, June 30, 2024, at approximately 2:42 p.m., the Union County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting a serious motor vehicle accident on U.S. Route 33, East from Scottslawn Road.

Officers and units from the Marysville Police Department, Marysville Fire Department and Jerome Township Fire Department responded to the scene. Marysville Fire Department paramedics extricated and transported a victim from the Nissan Sentra to Memorial Hospital. The victim was then flown to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

The victim did not survive and has not been identified pending notification of next of kin. Preliminary investigation determined that the 2022 Nissan Sentra was traveling westbound in the fast lane of U.S. Route 33 when it crossed both lanes of traffic and came to the shoulder where it struck the rear of a 2017 Peterbilt tractor-trailer that had stopped to secure an object to the tractor-trailer. The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash and the victim was wearing a seat belt. The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by units from the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Multi-County Crash Investigation Team and Commercial Enforcement Unit.
