ORISKANY, NY — During this week of K-9 presentations, Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol today introduced the third four-legged recruit.

Today's K-9 is named after Syracuse police officer and Rome native Michael Jensen, who was killed in the line of duty.

The first two K-9s, Mastro and Indi, were introduced Tuesday and Wednesday respectively and were acquired through donations from Mastrovito Hyundai and Indium Corporation.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office just welcomed a new recruit, ready to detect a crime.

This week continues to mark major accomplishments for the Oneida County Sheriff's Office as it welcomes three new members to its team.

K-9 Officer Jenson, a 15-month-old Dutch Shepherd, is partnered with Lt. John Cusack.

Members of the Jensen family, as well as some of Michael's friends, were in attendance at today's announcement.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente was also in attendance, as were members of the Syracuse Police Department.

“This is a way for us to always remember Officer Jensen’s life and the career he dedicated so much to. Thank you to the sheriff for doing this today,” said Syracuse Police Chief Joseph Cecile.

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. said, “Oneida County is pleased to welcome Jensen to our K-9 ranks. Naming this majestic animal after Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen is a beautiful way to honor his legacy and bring some comfort to his department, his family and the Rome community during this difficult time.
