ST. LOUIS — A sheriff's deputy shot and killed a teenager who was shooting at a group of people Wednesday night near a major transportation hub in downtown St. Louis.

The teen was shot in the chest and was conscious and breathing, according to St. Louis police.

The deputy was not injured.

City police responded around 6 p.m. to the 14th Street MetroLink platform at 401 South 14th Street, near the St. Louis Gateway Transportation Center, for the shooting.

The Transportation Center, near the Enterprise Center, serves as a regional hub for Amtrak, Greyhound and other transportation options.

The teenager opened fire after a confrontation involving a group of people, police said.
