Sheriff's deputies seek public's help after body found in Mississippi River – KBSI Fox 23 Cape Girardeau News

NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – New Madrid County Sheriff's deputies are asking for the public's help after discovering a human body floating in the Mississippi River on Wednesday.

On June 26, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department received a report of a human body floating in the Mississippi River near Marsh Landing, approximately eight miles east of Portageville.

Pemiscot County Sheriff's deputies and New Madrid firefighters launched their boats at Marsh Landing and began searching the area south of the ramp.

Around 2 p.m., a crew working on a sea wall about a mile south of the search area discovered the body.

Deputies took the body to the Missouri Bank.

Coroner George DeLisle attended the scene and took possession of the body.

The New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, New Madrid County Coroner's Office, New Madrid County Emergency Management, Portageville Police Department and New Madrid Fire Department responded.

The unidentified white man is described as being in his 40s or 50s. He has black hair and several tattoos.

An autopsy is scheduled for June 28 in Farmington.
