Sheriff's deputies search for flag vandalism

Deputies are asking for the public's help in finding the person responsible for tearing down American flags at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office headquarters.

GOLDEN, Colo. — Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for someone responsible for damaging flags at the sheriff's headquarters in Golden.

On June 5, around 6 p.m., a person was caught on security camera making an obscene gesture on camera before tearing up one of the American flags on Jefferson County Parkway.

The sheriff's office reported that seven flags were damaged in total. The flags are in place to honor fallen officers, according to the sheriff's office.

The person in the video wore a black and red knit cap, a black shirt and denim shorts, carried a backpack and had tattoos on his arms.

After vandalizing the flags, the person was last seen walking toward the light rail station, the sheriff's office said on the social platform X.

Anyone who can help identify this person is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office tip line at 303-271-5612.
