Sheriff: son, 34, shot dead by father during burglary in Providence | News

PROVIDENCE — A son was shot and wounded by his father as he broke into his father's home and threatened to kill him Sunday night, Saratoga County sheriff's officials said.

The son, identified as Ethan J. Chase, 34, homeless, suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to Albany Medical Center for evaluation.

Authorities identified the father as Earl W. Chase III, 66, of the Centerline Road address where the incident occurred.

There is a protective order in effect protecting Earl Chase from Ethan Chase, officials said.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Sunday at the Centerline Road residence, authorities said.

The investigation showed that Ethan Chase broke into his father's residence, authorities said. Ethan Chase allegedly threatened to kill his father before entering and while he was inside, authorities said.

Earl Chase then armed himself with a shotgun and fired a birdshot at his son after he refused to leave and began approaching the father and his wife, making more death threats, officials said.

Ethan Chase was taken into custody and taken for treatment. A statement did not refer to the charges yet filed.

The investigation was still continuing Monday morning.
