Shelter in place warning sent near Halls Mill Road

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Authorities have issued a shelter-in-place warning after two incidents in Mobile County.

Mobile Fire Rescue released a statement. The statement reads:

“As a precaution, the Mobile Fire Department is asking residents to shelter in place within a two-mile radius of 5327 Halls Mill Road in Mobile, Alabama in the event of an incident involving hazardous materials. This area includes parts of Tillman's Corner, Cypress Shores, Crestview and Rivière du Chien.

Mobile Fire and Rescue units were dispatched at approximately 7:03 a.m. to reports of a fire at a commercial building in the 5300 block of Halls Mill Road in Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

The District 2 chief was the first on scene to notice several vehicles on fire behind a warehouse. He also noted that power lines were down in the area.

Crews established a water supply and extinguished the fire. Pool chlorine paddles at the scene were reacting with the water and Hazmat 15 was dispatched to the scene.

As of 8:49 a.m., staff were still on scene to mitigate the incident. An update on when the shelter-in-place order will be lifted will follow.
