Sheboygan police officer shoots knife-wielding man, 32, after stabbing him

A 32-year-old man armed with a knife is recovering in the hospital after a Sheboygan police officer shot and stabbed him, according to the Sheboygan Police Department. Police said they responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a report of two men fighting at an apartment near 14th Street and Michigan Avenue. They found a 48-year-old Sheboygan man who had been stabbed by another resident of the same apartment, a 32-year-old Sheboygan man. Police say the officers attempted to negotiate with the 32-year-old man, who was still armed with a knife and refusing orders to leave the apartment. The 32-year-old man left the apartment after nearly two hours of negotiations, still armed with the knife. The 32-year-old man then charged the police. Officers then withdrew and attempted less lethal means to incapacitate the 32-year-old man. A police officer finally fired his handgun and struck the 32-year-old man to neutralize him. The 48-year-old man was transported to a local hospital by the Sheboygan Fire Department. He has already been released from the hospital, according to police. The 32-year-old man was airlifted to a Milwaukee area hospital and is expected to undergo surgery. There were no other injuries. The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident. There is no ongoing risk to the public.
