Shane Teslik sentenced to ten years in prison for stabbing to death in 2023 | AM 600 WMT

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The man convicted of manslaughter in the stabbing death of Devonna Walker is sentenced to ten years in prison. A judge today ordered Shane Teslik to also pay $12,234.35 in restitution to the Crime Victims Assistance Program, as well as $150,000 to Walker's children. He is also ordered to pay a fine of $1,370. Investigators say the stabbing happened outside Teslik's Cedar Rapids apartment after an argument. The Evansville Police Department said they received a call from the woman claiming that her car was stolen outside of a daycare center with her child still in the backseat.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>The woman told \u003cem>WFIE\u003c/em> that she \u003ca href=\" target=\"_blank\">stepped out of her car to drop off her older son at daycare\u003c/a>.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>"I am a good mom. I was dropping my son off into daycare. It was two seconds," she said, noting that her car was still on when a man from the repossession agency drove away with it.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>Sgt. \u003cstrong>Nick Winsett\u003c/strong> told \u003cem>WEHT\u003c/em> that the \u003ca href=\" target=\"_blank\">repossession agency contacted the department \u003c/a>before sending a driver to seize the woman's car. When she called 911, the dispatcher recognized her vehicle and informed her that it was not stolen. Then, officers contacted the repossession agency and told them that a child was in the backseat.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>After realizing the baby was in the car, the driver pulled over and flagged down a sheriff's deputy.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>The child was unharmed.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>Officials said that no charges would be filed against the woman or the repo man who had taken the car, calling the situation a "big in Oregon. The Sweet Home Fire District said they received an emergency call on Wednesday (June 5) morning that a person had fallen down Sahalie Falls.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>When paramedics arrived, the man was being attended to by bystanders.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>"Thankfully, he sustained non-life threatening injuries but was unable to walk and extremely cold due to being so close to the falls," \u003ca href=\" target=\"_blank\">the fire district wrote on Facebook\u003c/a>.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>Because the man could not walk, \u003ca href=\" target=\"_blank\">rescue crews had to conduct a complex operation\u003c/a> to pull him up the face of the cliff using ropes. The rescue workers then carried him to the parking lot, a half-mile away.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>He was then transported to a nearby highway, where a Life Flight helicopter was waiting to airlift him to the hospital. Officials did not provide any information about the extent of his injuries or his condition.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>"We would like to thank our outstanding partners who helped make this a successful outcome.
