SF police shoot person with non-lethal weapon in Bayview-Hunters Point

San Francisco police said a person was hospitalized Thursday afternoon with non-life-threatening injuries after officers allegedly shot him with a non-lethal weapon in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood of the city.

Police said they were called to the area of Ingalls Street and Armstrong Avenue for a report of a person allegedly holding a gun.

Officers found and made contact with the person, who was not immediately identified, near Jennings Street and Donner Avenue. It was not immediately clear whether the person had a gun on them when police confronted them.

Police have released few initial details about the encounter, other than that there was a police shooting. The man was injured “as a result of less deadly force being used to take him into custody,” police said in a statement, adding that the person “did not suffer any injuries Gunshot”.

Police did not immediately respond to follow-up questions about whether the person was armed or what type of non-lethal weapons were used to subdue them. It was also not immediately clear whether the person had been medically cleared to be incarcerated Friday.

A public meeting at which police will present body-worn camera footage of the incident is expected within the next 10 days while authorities investigate the shooting.
