(KRON) — Yohan Murillo-Medina, a drug trafficker based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, was sentenced Wednesday to 32 months in prison, U.S. Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey announced. The 22-year-old San Francisco resident pleaded guilty to the charges in February.

On the morning of January 30, Murillo-Medina was carrying a backpack near the corner of Golden Gate Avenue and Hyde Street. After noticing police nearby, prosecutors said Murillo-Medina began to run away.

The prosecutor's office said the foot chase continued for “several blocks” until Murillo-Medina stopped and was arrested shortly after. Police recovered his backpack and jacket which, according to the prosecutor's office, contained the following items:

  • 1,749.9 grams of fentanyl
  • 20.7 grams of a “substance containing methamphetamine”
  • 26.7 grams of alprazolam (benzodiazepine) pills
  • 132.1 grams of marijuana

The 22-year-old later admitted to fleeing because “he believed officers were going to arrest him for possession and attempted distribution of controlled substances contained in his backpack and jacket,” the prosecutor's office said.

On April 11, 2023, a federal grand jury indicted Murillo-Medina, charging him with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Another charge was made involving fentanyl. The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to both charges.
