Sexual assault, weapons charges stem from national investigation

Facing a series of charges, the accused was remanded in custody, awaiting a bail hearing.

ARMOUR, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police have charged one person following an investigation into a domestic dispute.

On June 25, 2024, the Almaguin Highlands OPP received a report of a domestic incident in Armour Township. An individual was arrested with the assistance of the Almaguin Highlands Crime Unit, Street Crime Enforcement Unit (CSCU), Canine Unit, Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and Emergency Response Team (ERT). In addition, a search warrant was subsequently executed.

A 72-year-old man was charged with the following:

  • Assault causing bodily harm – choking, suffocation or strangulation
  • Assault causing bodily harm – two counts
  • Assault causing bodily harm – spouse
  • Sexual assault – three counts
  • Malice – domestic
  • Uttering threats – causing death or bodily harm – spouse
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Firearm – use in the commission of an offence
  • Theft over $5,000
  • Breach of commitment

The accused has been remanded in custody, pending a bail hearing. Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim(s).
