BUT IF WE GET BEFORE HIM, HELP ON THE FRONT LINES, AND MAKE MORE PEOPLE WORK, WE CAN WIN THIS BATTLE. BUT ONLY IF WE DO IT TOGETHER. LAST NIGHT'S EVENT TOOK PLACE IN OBSERVATION OF NATIONAL GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY AND THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND ATRIUM HEALTH PARTNERED TO DISTRIBUTE D LOCKS FREE WEAPONS LATER TODAY. THE CONTEST WILL BE HELD AT THE DOWNTOWN HEALTH PLAZA ON MLK JUNIOR DRIVE FROM NEW THIS MORNING UNTIL THIS AFTERNOON. IN ADDITION TO WEAPON LOCKS, OTHER SAFETY ITEMS LIKE LIFE VESTS AND HELMETS WILL ALSO BE DISTRIBUTED. AND GUILFORD COUNTY EDUCATORS AND STAFF ARE RALLING AGAINST THEIR PROPOSED BUDGET. THE GROUP WALKED TO THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING LAST EVENING. THEY'RE ASKING THE DISTRICT FOR $304 MILLION, BUT THE COUNTY BUDGET PROVIDES FOR 266 MILLION TEACHERS. SCHOOL OFFICER PARENTS AND SOME SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS ARE REACHING OUT TO DEMAND MORE MONEY FOR EDUCATION. I think the message was clear: Guildford schools need his help. We're looking for the Board of County Commissioners to step up, and we also know the situation is dire, and that's due to underfunding at the state level. THIS WAS ONLY A PUBLIC HEARING, SO NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. FURTHER TALKS WILL BE PLACED AT THE COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING ON JUNE 28. THE GUILFORD COUNTY BUDGET IS TO BE APPROVED BY THE FIRST OF JULY AND FOR THIS SUMMER, WINSTON-SALEM FORSYTH COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL OFFER MEALS TO CHILDREN WEEKDAYS STARTING JUNE 17TH. BREAKFAST AND LUNCH WILL BE SERVED IN MORE THAN 20 SCHOOLS UNTIL JULY 31. ALAMANCE BURLINGTON SCHOOL SYSTEM WILL ALSO START ITS MEAL PROGRAM THE SAME DAY BUT LASTS A LITTLE LONGER UNTIL AUGUST 9 AND DAVIE COUNTY SCHOOLS OFFER FREE MEALS TO CHILDREN 18 AND UNDER FROM JUNE 18 TO AUGUST 16 . NO MEALS WILL BE OFFERED ON JULY 4 OR FIFTH. WE HAVE LOCATIONS LISTED ON OUR WEBSITE AND THE STATE OF WINSTON-SALEM RECEIVES OVER A MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. THIS WILL BE PAID OVER FIVE YEARS AND WILL PROVIDE TUITION SUPPORT TO EDUCATORS WHO PLAN TO UNDERSTAND SPECIALIZED TRAINING FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS. PROFESSOR SAYS THIS WILL ALLOW THE UNIVERSITY TO BUILD A COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM TO PREPARE FUTURE TEACHERS AND HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. AND AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, GUILFORD COUNTY RECOGNIZES ITS EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS WHO GO BEYOND.
