Serial crime; A fatal shooting took place in Minneapolis on Saturday morning

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are responding to a string of crimes and a fatal shooting within hours of each other Saturday morning.

Around 10 a.m., police became aware of a crime spree in the Third Precinct, with several incidents occurring around the 4100 block of Elliott Avenue. The spree involved two vehicles that police suspected were stolen and minors breaking into other cars.

At one point, the juveniles pointed a handgun at a person. A pursuit was authorized and officers drove a vehicle toward the Longfellow neighborhood. The minors were then released on bail. Police were able to arrest three and also found four handguns which they took possession of.

The three minors are all known to the police.

About an hour and a half later, police were called to a shooting on 34th Street between Knox and James. Police arrived on scene and found a man with a gunshot wound on the ground next to a car.

The police approached him and noticed that he was no longer breathing. Police then began CPR before the victim was transported to a local hospital. There he was pronounced dead.

Police believe the man was shot while in his car and knew the shooter.

The shooting remains under investigation by police.
