A 15-year-old St. Albert boy attacked while walking with his mother and dog Tuesday evening has died from a stab wound, police said.

Broden Radomske, 15, died at the scene after being randomly attacked by a man near 137th Avenue and 184th Street around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. An autopsy conducted Friday by the Edmonton medical examiner concluded the cause of death was a stab wound and the manner of death was a homicide.

“This is a tragic loss that has affected the entire community, and our thoughts are with the family, friends, classmates and all those who have been affected by the senseless death of a young person,” said Edmonton Homicide Staff Sgt. Colin Leathem said in a statement released Friday.

“We want to reassure the community that the suspect has been apprehended and there is no risk to public safety.”

Officers from Edmonton's Northwest Division, called to the scene Tuesday evening, attempted to save the boy's life, but were unable to save him.

The abandoned street where residential St. Albert ends and Edmonton begins is popular with dog walkers. The teenager and his mother regularly walked their pit bull there.

His mother, who was at the scene Wednesday afternoon, told Postmedia she believed the attack was triggered by a mental episode. She and her son knew the attacker in passing.

Her son was walking behind her when the attack happened.

Radomske, who played hockey at St. Albert during the 2023-24 season and school basketball, had a wide circle of friends in the community. The school district offers counseling services in the St. Albert schools he attended.

Edmonton City Police said Thursday that Keith James Landry, 40, was charged with second-degree murder.
