Senior citizen killed in Apple Valley motorcycle crash

A 68-year-old man died Saturday after his motorcycle collided with a car near his home in Apple Valley, authorities said.

Robert Witt of Apple Valley was killed in the collision, which occurred just before 10:30 a.m. at Standing Rock Avenue and Blackfoot Road, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials said.

He was riding a 2011 Harley-Davidson Road Glide west along Standing Rock Avenue just before the crash, officials said. A northbound 2017 Honda Civic was crossing the intersection of Standing Rock Avenue from Pine Ridge Avenue to Blackfoot Road.

“The motorcyclist rear-ended the sedan at the intersection,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

Witt was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, a 51-year-old Apple Valley woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, sheriff's officials said.

Witt's home was less than a mile from the crash site, according to public records.

The intersection is regulated by a stop sign for northbound and southbound traffic, while eastbound and westbound traffic along Standing Rock Road flows freely.
