Selena Gomez talks keeping people 'balanced' around her

Selena Gomez recently opened up about the challenges of finding friends within the same industry and surrounding yourself with “level-headed” people.

THE Only murders in the building star and founder of Rare Beauty was recently featured in an extensive interview with TIME about her beauty brand which is now worth around $2 billion and the continued success of her popular Hulu show. Gomez has also remained outspoken about prioritizing her mental health and giving back with her Rare Impact Fund.

While discussing her own mental health, Gomez opened up about the people she spends time with and how she tries to be “deliberate.”

“It’s a cliché, but girls are mean,” Gomez said. “It's a very weird competition, being in the cool girl neighborhood – and then I'm like, right there. I don't know where I'm supposed to belong.

The publication also noted that she said her best friends were “a real estate agent, a producer and a casting director,” although she did not mention her close friendship with Taylor Swift.

“I like having reasonable people around me who don’t give a shit about what I do,” Gomez said.

After speaking about her friendships, Gomez also highlighted her close collaboration with U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy in his research into the loneliness epidemic.

“It’s hard,” she continued. “You could be in a crowd of people and still feel alone. I'm still dealing with this.

Selena Gomez, who gushed about her recent relationship with Benny Blanco, also recently gave a friend advice on dealing with heartbreak, saying, “You have to go through it.”

“You can distract yourself and deny and deny all you want, but it will always be there,” Gomez said. “I just allow myself to live through these days.”
