Sedalia man arrested in stabbing incident

Early Monday morning, Sedalia Police went to Bothwell Regional Health Center, 601 East 14th Street, to investigate a report of a subject arriving at the hospital with a stab wound.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim. The victim said she was at the scene of the incident (which was redacted from the report) and was playing slot machines. He then said the suspect approached him from the side and he felt a shooting pain in his upper left arm.

The victim said she did not see what she had stabbed with and did not know why the suspect had stabbed her, as she knew the suspect but was not friends with him. Officers located the suspect a short time later in the 1300 block of South Lamine Avenue. He was the subject of a probation violation warrant and was placed under arrest.

The suspect initially denied assaulting anyone, but mentioned that there was a knife on the floor of the business where he and the victim were fighting. The suspect said he picked up the knife and threw it along the Katy Trail.

Shane Steven Ruth, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested for 2nd degree felonious assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and for violating his probation warrant on the original charges of felony possession of a substance controlled.
