Second teen charged with murder for fatal Spring Street shooting – NBC New York

A second teenager has been arrested following the shooting death of a 16-year-old in a quiet Manhattan neighborhood, police said.

The teen, also 16, was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with second-degree murder. His arrest comes a little less than a month after U.S. Marshals arrested Henry Thomas, 19, in Harlem in connection with the May 7 fatal shooting of Mahki Brown in SoHo, police said.

Brown was killed in the outdoor Urban Plaza, a public courtyard on private property between two buildings on Spring Street, when several people rode Citi bikes, police said. One of the individuals pulled out a gun, shooting Brown in the back of the head and twice in the leg, police said.

It is believed that some sort of argument broke out between the two groups before the shots were fired.

Brown was rushed to hospital, but died from his injuries. It was not immediately clear whether he was the intended target.

The suspects immediately took off in the direction of Citi Bikes. A photo shared with NBC New York showed two people on a Citi bike — one pedaling and the other sitting in the bike's front basket — who were believed to be involved in the shooting. It is believed that these two individuals were arrested.

Information from an attorney for either of the accused teens was not immediately clear.
