Second shark attack reported in Walton County, teen injured

A teenager was injured in a shark attack reported near Shoreline Drive in Inlet Beach, marking the second such incident in Walton County, Florida, today.

  • The Walton County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) and South Walton Fire District (SWFD) are currently responding to the scene.

Earlier this afternoon, authorities responded to a similar incident near Watersound Way and Coopersmith Lane, where a woman was injured during an encounter with a shark. The victim from the first incident was transported to the hospital by SWFD and the extent of his injuries have not been released.

Following the first incident, Double red flags were raised on nearby beaches, indicating that the Gulf was closed to the public in the localized area where the incident occurred.

In light of the second reported shark attack, the WCSO announced that water is now shut off to the public throughout Walton County. Bathers are advised to stay out of the water until further notice.

Authorities did not provide any additional information about the teen's condition or the circumstances surrounding the latest incident. WCSO and SWFD are currently on scene and assessing the situation.
