Second person charged in connection with Donnelly Field shooting | News

The Cambridge Police Department has arrested a second person in connection with a shooting at Donnelly Field that occurred last month, the department announced in a news release Thursday.

In the release, CPD announced the arrest of Machyus Battle, 19, who they believe is connected to the May 23 shooting at Donnelly Field, in which two individuals were shot but not fatally injured.

Brattle, a Cambridge resident, was arraigned Monday on eight charges in Cambridge District Court, including assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery by discharge of a firearm and carrying of a dangerous weapon on school grounds. Brattle was previously arrested by Boston police last year in connection with a shooting near a playground in Roxbury.

Brattle could not be reached for comment on his most recent accusations. He is the second person arrested in connection with the Donnelly Field shooting.

Immediately after the incident, CPD announced the arrest of Yonayvi Cruceta, 23, who allegedly shot one of the victims. At the time of the arrest, the department noted that Cruceta exchanged gunfire with an unknown person, which resulted in injuries to the victim.

Despite the announcement of a second arrest, CPD's investigation into the shooting continues.

In Thursday's announcement, the department wrote that an “alleged argument” between Battle and Cruceta preceded the shooting.

“After a brief interaction, an exchange of gunfire occurred between Battle and Cruceta,” the statement said. “Cruceta was injured as well as a 22-year-old woman who was also shot, possibly due to a stray bullet fired by one of the parties.”

Battle will remain in custody until he faces a “dangerousness hearing” Tuesday to determine whether or not he will be granted pretrial release.
