Second man involved in Babbitt workplace stabbing sentenced to 17 years in prison

DULUTH, Minn. — A second man has been convicted for his role in the 2021 shooting of an employee at a northeast Minnesota business.

Josiah David Delvecchio was sentenced Tuesday to 17 years in prison for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, complicity to attempted first-degree murder, complicity to first-degree assault and complicity to second-degree assault , according to the St. Louis County District Attorney’s Office.

He was convicted in January for the July 2021 stabbing at a Babbitt business. Court documents say the attacker entered the building while wearing a disguise and stabbed a woman inside multiple times.

Investigators later determined that several people were involved in planning the murder.

Delvecchio's defense attorney unsuccessfully asked the judge for a shorter sentence during Tuesday's hearing, during which the victim and her son gave victim impact statements.

“The success of this case is attributed to the survivor’s courage in her testimony before the jury, as well as outstanding investigative work,” said St. Louis County District Attorney Kim Maki.

Donald James Miller and Dylan Peterson were also charged with conspiracy. Miller was sentenced last year to 20 years in prison, while Peterson will go on trial in November.
