Second man arrested in Pawtucket shooting

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Pawtucket police have made another arrest in connection with a shooting that happened in broad daylight earlier this week.

Oswal Sanchez Figueroa, 20, of Providence, was arrested Thursday and charged with conspiracy.

Officers were called to the corner of Jefferson and West avenues, just across from Payne Park, Tuesday afternoon following reports of shots fired in the area.

Police said officers found a number of spent shell casings and blood on the ground, but no victims.

Investigators later learned that a 19-year-old man had been shot multiple times while leaving a convenience store.

The victim was seriously injured and transported by his friends to a nearby hospital, where he is currently recovering from his injuries.

Police said two suspects were seen jumping into a car and speeding away from the convenience store while continuing to shoot at the victim.

Investigators tracked the vehicle to Providence using the city's automated license plate readers. Police later found the car in the capital and arrested the suspected shooter, 20-year-old José Medina Alvarez.

Medina Alvarez was charged with felonious assault, drive-by shooting, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, carrying a pistol without a license and shooting in a compact area.

Sánchez Figueroa is due to appear before a judge Friday morning.
