EVANSTON, Ill. — A search of an Evanston beach Monday was called off after crews said they found no credible evidence of a missing swimmer.

According to Evanston police, crews were called to the scene around 3:15 p.m. on a call that a swimmer was lost in the water at Greenwood Beach, in the 1100 block of Lake Boulevard Shore.

Officers said the initial report indicated a person was swimming on the beach when they fell underwater and did not resurface.

SkyCam9 was on scene around 4:30 p.m. when emergency crews could be seen searching the water around the beach.

Firefighters later said in an article on that marine units, rescue divers and a CPD helicopter were searching the waters and asked the public to avoid the area near the Church Street boat ramp as crews are using it as a staging area for rescue equipment.

The search was finally called off around 6:15 p.m. after firefighters said they found no credible evidence of a missing swimmer.

Due to the investigation, officials closed all Evanston beaches on Monday and said they would not reopen until Tuesday morning.
