Searches intensify to find Albert Calibet after his disappearance in Greece

The search is expanding for a retired Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy who went missing in Greece during a scorching heatwave.

Albert Calibet, 59, was last seen on Tuesday while hiking on the Greek island of Amorgos. New drone video above the rocky terrain shows the extensive search efforts to find the Hermosa Beach man.

A helicopter and local shepherds also intervened to help find him.

A retired Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy has gone missing in Greece amid a scorching heat wave in the Mediterranean country.

Surveillance video obtained by MEGA Live News, which is under investigation by Greek authorities, appears to show Calibet in a parking lot at the start of this hike.

His girlfriend and brother also traveled to the Mediterranean country with some searchers and rescuers from Los Angeles.

“The island is half the size of Catalina. It's not that big,” said his brother Oliver Calibet. “Time is running out…it's on its fourth day right now. It's not good, but we're very positive about it.”

The scorching heat posed a research challenge as some parts of the country experience triple-digit temperatures.

Temperatures topped 104 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday across much of central and southern Greece, including greater Athens, the Cyclades and Crete.

Authorities are on heightened alert over the forest fires that ravage Greece every summer.
