Search underway for missing man in northwest city

CHICAGO — Authorities are asking for help searching for a man who has been missing for several days on the city's northwest side.

According to Chicago police, Hernan Alvarez Luna, 42, is missing from the 4900 block of West Cornelia Avenue in Portage Park. Officers say the missing man was last seen in the area on Tuesday, June 11th.

Surveillance video captured around 5 a.m. that day shows Alvarez Luna wearing a black backpack, a green and yellow jacket, brown pants, a white and black baseball cap and black shoes. Authorities say he may still be wearing some of the clothes or the backpack seen in the photo.

Alvarez Luna, who has brown hair and blue eyes, is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs approximately 195 pounds.

Police say Alvarez Luna is known to have a tattoo of a pin-up girl on his left forearm and a tattoo of a skull on his right shoulder. He is also known to have a surgical scar on his left collarbone.

A second photo provided by Chicago police shows the missing man with a buzz cut, but it's unclear if that was the hairstyle he had at the time of his disappearance.

Officers say the missing man frequents the Portage Park, Chopin Park and Kilbourn Park neighborhoods.

Officers informed the public of the man's disappearance in a news release issued Saturday morning.
