Search underway for Buford teen missing since February: police

BUFORD, Ga. — Police continue to search for a missing 16-year-old girl who they say was last seen in February at her Westoak Court home.

Gwinnett County police said Tuesday that Asata Amun remains missing after she was last seen on Feb. 1. Her father reported her missing, police said.

The day he disappeared, a doorbell camera captured Amon running toward his front door, police said.

Amon has not yet returned home and there has been no communication with her since her disappearance, police said. When she left her home, police said she did not take any personal belongings with her.

The day before he disappeared, police said Amon “had been disciplined by administrators at his school.” Police did not say what led to the disciplinary action.

“Detectives believe this incident may have caused her to leave the home on the day she was last seen,” police said in a news release.

Amon is described by police as 5 feet 2 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. Police said she weighed 115 pounds and was last seen wearing a white shirt and black pants.

Family members, who are hoping someone will come forward with information about her whereabouts, said she did not talk about running away before leaving, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information on Amun's whereabouts to call detectives at (770) 513-5300. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477.
