Search for missing swimmer continues off Sanibel's Blind Pass Beach


Friends on social media identified the missing teenager as a North Fort Myers High School football player.

The search for a missing swimmer near Sanibel Island, which has drawn local and state authorities, has entered its third day.

Officer Bradley Johnson, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said Tuesday they are assisting the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Sanibel police in the search for a missing teenager at Blind Pass Beach.

As Sanibel police lead the search, Jessie Santero, a spokeswoman for the Lee County Sheriff's Office, said they have assisted multiple marine assets and air units.

Eric Jackson, a city spokesman, said two swimmers were rescued while the search continued for a third swimmer. He declined to identify the missing boy.

Friends on social media identified the missing teen as a student at North Fort Myers High School.

The condition of the two rescued swimmers remained unknown on Thursday morning.
