Search for missing Jay Slater moves to tourist spots in southern Tenerife

The search for a missing British teenager on Tenerife has been transferred to tourist hotspots in the south of the island.

A large search operation has been underway on the island since Jay Slater was reported missing on Monday June 17. The 19-year-old's last telephone location was in Teno Rural Park, near the village of Masca, in the north of Tenerife.

Sniffer dogs, police helicopters and drones were all used during the extensive searches in the mountainous area. But Spanish police revealed today (June 19) that the search operation has shifted dramatically to the south of Tenerife.

Officers are conducting searches in Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas, near where Jay was staying with his two friends. Searches in the north of the island have been “paused”.

A Civil Guard spokesperson said at 12:30 p.m. local time: “The search operation has moved to the south of the island. The search areas are Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas.

The spokesperson was unable to provide further details on the reason for the change, but added: “This is obviously due to information that has been received as the investigation As things stand, the search in the mountainous area near Masca in the north has been stopped.

Jay had flown to Tenerife with two friends to attend the three-day NRG music festival. But on Sunday evening the teenager, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, stayed out with some new friends he had made while his pals went back to the hotel.

He went to stay at their apartment but found himself “in the middle of nowhere” and told his friend Lucy on Monday morning that we were trying to walk back from the mountainous area of ​​Teno Rural Park. We haven't heard from Jay since.
