Search for missing 8-year-old boy ends after divers find body near Boynton Inlet

The body of an 8-year-old boy reported missing Thursday morning after falling from a pier near Boynton Inlet has been found, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

The child was found shortly after 10:30 a.m. on the north ocean side of the cove by a Boynton Beach Fire Rescue dive team. Sheriff's Office detectives, crime scene investigators and the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office are on scene for further investigation, PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.

The situation started around 6 a.m. while the boy was fishing with his father. The boy reportedly fell off the pier and entered the water. Marine and air units from the Sheriff's Office and Coast Guard responded to the area, along with a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Jet Ski Team, the Special Operations Dive Team and Marine and Diving Units of the Boynton Beach Police and Fire Department.
