Sean Kingston arrested for theft and fraud following SWAT raid

Sean Kingston was arrested in California on fraud and theft charges following a SWAT raid on his South Florida mansion and the arrest of his mother.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office said Kingston was arrested Thursday without incident on a Florida arrest warrant in San Bernardino County. It came just hours after Broward detectives arrested his mother, Janice Turner, during a raid on Kingston's home in an upscale Fort Lauderdale suburb. She was also taken into custody on suspicion of fraud and theft.

Robert Rosenblatt, an attorney representing Kingston, told NBC News: “We were in the process of flying him back to Florida after his show,” Bob Rosenblatt, an attorney representing Kingston, told NBC News. “We want him back as soon as possible so we can show that this is just a civil matter and not a criminal one. We look forward to fighting this case in court.

Before his own arrest, Kingston posted on Instagram: “People love negative energy! I'm fine, and so is my mother! … My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.

NBC News in South Florida reports that the raids were linked to a lawsuit filed against Kingston for failing to pay for luxury items, including a television, watches and a custom-made bed. Kingston's mother has previously been involved in legal issues relating to fake loan applications and bank fraud.

The Jamaican-American singer is best known for his 2007 #1 song “Beautiful Girls”, in addition to his collaboration with Justin Bieber on the song “Eenie Meenie”. Kingston hasn't released music under a major label in over a decade.

Attorney Dennis Card, who represents an individual who allegedly sued Kingston over the unpaid items, told the outlet that Kingston is “basically using a script, saying he's working with Justin Bieber and obviously putting on a big show here, that's is a rental house. , he doesn't own it, and he tricks people into using his celebrity to post things without him paying for it, and then he just never pays.

Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, will be detained in San Bernardino pending his return to Florida.
