Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) recently presented the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officers with the prestigious MADD Award. The award recognizes their unwavering commitment to traffic safety and dedication to preventing the devastating consequences of impaired driving.

Two deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Department were among those honored.

Pictured above, Operations Lt. Barclay and Traffic Sergeant Perkins stand alongside Deputies Gamiz and Curameng at the recent MADD California Awards.

Deputy Curameng is one of the SCV Sheriff's Station's Drug Recognition Experts and was responsible for 129 DUI arrests over a one-year period.

MP Gamiz has made 27 arrests for drunk driving in the past year.

Both deputies accomplished these results in addition to their regular patrol arrest responsibilities and traffic reports.

Founded in 1980, Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a passionate advocate for safer roads and a steadfast supporter of victims of impaired driving. MADD’s mission is to end drunk driving, combat impaired driving, support victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking. Their efforts have saved countless lives and raised awareness of the dangers of impaired driving.

The LASD deputies receiving these prestigious awards have demonstrated exceptional dedication, arresting a total of 373 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol over the past year.

The Sheriff's Department is fully committed to ensuring community safety by taking a comprehensive approach to combating DUIs. By implementing strict enforcement measures, disseminating public service announcements and conducting proactive awareness campaigns.
